As The Elderly Population Grows, So Does The Market For Geriatric Massage
Techniques for elderly patients can yield emotionally satisfying results without being physically draining as most techniques utilize light pressure and gentle movements. Some of the same techniques used safely on seniors can also used on other specialized clients such as athletes, infants, and pregnant women. Learning safe, appropriate, and life-enhancing techniques for use in elderly massage can enrich a practice by allowing therapists to work with not only seniors, but other clients that require a gentle touch and techniques that have been proven to be safe. This Spring, the Healing Arts Center will offer a two and a half day workshop course with nationally recognized geriatric massage master instructor Sharon Puszko, which will qualify participants for the Level 1 Certificate in Geriatric Massage. By helping participants to gain insight into meaningful work with the elderly, the therapist who wants to work with seniors is put on the path to a massage career that offers a growing clientele and is also emotionally rewarding.
