Breathing Technique to Relieve Stress: Self-Care Awareness Month

9/19/2019

Comments

Stress. That vague constricting feeling, the weight that drags on you. It shows up as tight shoulders, low energy, clenched jaws. You have your ways to cope with stress, from talking with a friend, helping someone out, getting a big hug, exercising, or a hot bath. What would probably make a huge difference in your wellbeing is deep breathing.

Breathing is the key to regulating the nervous system, to relieve stress, promote relaxation, and more. Transformational Breathwork is a practice of guided, conscious breath that allows the body to reset from fight-flight-freeze mode, stimulating the vagus nerve, and starting a ripple effect to help every system in the body perform optimally.

Breathing is unique, because you can control it when you want to and because breath is so basic to living, it is the foundation of all health systems. Self-care encompasses many aspects of health: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Since September is Self-Care Awareness Month, we feature breath as a self-care practice. By learning to harness your breath through the methods you learn in a Transformational Breathwork workshop, you can bring this practice into your everyday life to improve your overall health in all of those areas, not just your stress response.

The 4-hour introduction workshop will teach you how. Everyone is welcome to attend an Introduction to Transformational Breathwork workshop. Participants frequently report that they can release negative emotions, stresses, and even the subconscious aftermath of traumatic events.

How people report feeling after Transformational Breathwork
“I loved breathwork with Tom. It gave me a huge feeling of finally letting go of all the things I’ve been holding onto for years. It was like I was taking a first breath again.”
– Brittany Vandeveer
When you attend a breathwork session with a Breathwork Facilitator, you are guided through a Transformational Breathwork Session for therapeutic benefit. You may find your body releases held areas of muscle tension as you breathe into the sensations that come up. The Facilitator will give reminders about the proper way to do the breathing technique and help you with any emotional releases that may come up.

Self-care is important when you work in a job that is demanding of any aspect of your health, such as helping or giving to others.  At the Healing Arts Center, our Massage Therapy curriculum includes breathwork for this reason, along with other forms of self-care. Massage Therapists can ensure their professional longevity when they maintain good physical health and a healthy emotional state. Self-care like breathwork helps therapists take care of themselves so they can avoid injury, stress, and burnout.

The breath connects mind and body, bringing full awareness to the body's sensations. The breath also connects the conscious, thinking mind, to the subconscious mind, where there may be thoughts, feelings, or memories previously unexpressed or unacknowledged. Transformational Breathwork is deeply liberating and can be used to help participants focus on creating the conditions for an "ideal life". This is one of the Healing Arts Center's most powerfully therapeutic programs.

When taking on a new self-care practice it helps to have an expert to instruct and guide you. Tom Tessereau is the Breathwork Facilitator who leads the group sessions at the Healing Arts Center, including the Introduction to Transformational Breathwork, and the Monthly Transformational Breathwork sessions. Tom has amassed a lifetime of knowledge and experience in his decades as headmaster of The Healing Arts Center, including teaching and practicing breathwork, among many other modalities.

You will benefit from the unique combination of methods Tom has curated for the Introduction to Transformational Breathwork, including: breathing techniques, meditation, toning, invocation, affirmations, positive intention and lots of guided breathing to support your growth and the integration of your personal healing.

The next Introduction is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 at 12:30pm. Click the image below to register, or call (314)647-8080.
Introduction to Transformational Breathwork - September 28

Keep Your Self-Care Practice on Track

Once you learn how, Transformational Breathwork is a therapeutic practice you can do on your own with minimal tools and set-up. No matter how long you’ve been practicing, this simple set-up will continue to support your practice. Even long-time practitioners find they can always uncover a deeper level of connecting with their consciousness.
After completing the Introduction to Transformational Breathwork, participants are eligible to attend the Monthly Transformational Breathwork Sessions, held on the second Sunday of each month.

The 90-minute group session continues the practices you learn in the introduction. We all know how challenging it can be to keep up a new habit over time. When you show up each month and Tom guides you through the breath session, you are building your self-care muscle. Many participants find greater ease and depth to their breathing as they return again and again to the sessions.

The next monthly Transformational Breathwork Session is scheduled for Sunday, October 6 at 9:00 am. Click the image below to register, or call (314)647-8080.
