This summer, The Healing Arts Center decided to step up its commitment to the community and to the healing arts generally by opening a free Community Cancer Clinic. Inspired by a friend and client of Tom Tessereau, the clinic aspires to offer relief from the pain and anxiety that arises from cancer treatment.

Referrals have been coming in from personal recommendations as well as oncology centers as far away as Chicago.  Students with excellent academics and attendance are invited to undergo special training to participate in what equates to an honors clinic at the school.   Graduates may also volunteer and receive the same training before participating in the clinic.  Cancer patients have special needs and present special therapeutic concerns that must be managed by the clinician.

The clinic is open to the public and anyone currently in treatment for cancer may book a session.  Patients must submit a form to their oncologist requesting clearance for massage therapy treatment along with providing
instructions and limitations to the HAC clinicians.  If a patient cannot get clearance, he or she can still book a session and receive a Reiki treatment.  (Reiki does not involve tissue manipulation)

Clients often report a dramatic reduction in the symptoms associated with chemotherapy and radiation as well as substantial relief from the anxiety that arises from being in conventional cancer treatment.  The goal of the HAC Community Cancer Clinic is to restore quality of life to patients who must undergo the ordeal of modern cancer treatment.   Massage therapy is not a substitute for conventional medical care but rather is designed to augment and empower other medical modalities.  By restoring peace of mind, for example, cancer patients are better prepared to face the rigors of conventional cancer treatment

If you know someone currently in treatment for cancer who would like to participate in the Community Cancer Clinic ask them to call Terrie Yardley-Nohr at (314) 647-8080 or fill out the request for services form below.

In order to qualify for free Community Cancer Clinic services you must be currently in treatment for cancer.  You will need permission from your oncologist for massage therapy though you can receive Reiki treatments without permission.  Forms will be provided to give to your doctor.

Submitting a request through this form does not mean that you have been accepted as a client.  HAC reserves the right to decline to treat anyone within its sole discretion.
