Tsa Lung Links Breath With Consciousness Over the past year, Lama Lobsang Palden has delivered a series of workshops that teach participants elements of various Tibetan breath yogas. Included in his workshop series has been an introduction to "Tummo", the yoga of generating internal heat made famous by the Mahasiddha Naropa in the 10th Century. Tsa Lung is the name for a variety of practices that teach practitioners how to develop vital energy (lung), or prana, in the energy channels (tsa) of the body. Many Eastern energy medicine systems use practices similar to Tsa Lung such as Tai Chi, though the physical techniques might look quite different. As Lama Lobsang teaches it, Tsa Lung is usually done sitting down as opposed to the standing positions used in Tai Chi. Both systems build and purify energy for the purpose of benefiting both mental and physical health. Tsa Lung is easy to practice and anyone can do it regardless of age or physical fitness. The Tsa Lung system expels stalled energy and replaces it with fresh energy and causes energy to move through the energy channels in the body in an orderly fashion. This, in turn, reduces stress and anxiety along with providing valuable oxygen to bodily tissues and the brain. Following the Tsa Lung instruction, Lama Lobsang will provide participants with an added treat - a Medicine Buddha gong bath. This tantric practice combines the recitation of the Medicine Buddha puja, a practice that creates the presence of healing consciousness in the form of Medicine Buddha, a tantric "yidam" along with a sound therapy modality involving a variety of sacred instruments. The "gong bath" creates a specifically structured series of sound waves used to purify mind and body and creates an profound sense of calm and well-being.
