Use Singing Bowls to Promote Well-Being in Others

6/23/2016

Singing Bowl Therapy on July 23 & 24
is Open to the Public.

Singing Bowls are capable of producing the most amazing tones. If you consider what sound tones actually are, they are simply vibrations that travel through air, liquids or solids.  So tones can be perceived through several of the senses. Hearing is the ability to perceive sound by detecting vibrations in the ear. It is also possible to see sound waves, as in my picture below, which shows sound traveling through water.

Since the body is composed of some 2/3 water, it is a great medium for sound travel.  Sound can move much more efficiently through water than air because the molecules are more tightly packed.  Which brings us to another sense in which sound can be perceived, the sense of touch, or feeling.

We can feel sound in our body because as the vibrations move through us, molecules in our body actually become periodically displaced. The tones travel through us in waves, in which each molecule bumps the next, then returns to its original position (oscillation). The result is that the medium (or body) becomes alternatively more & less dense. This not only feels and sounds fantastic, it offers us a welcome opportunity to deeply relax and forget about everything else.
During a sound therapy treatment, singing bowls of various sizes and tones are placed on and around the fully clothed body and gently played.  Some bowls remain in place for the entire treatment and others are moved or repositioned as needed.  The recipient can lie on his or her stomach, back, or side and people can be treated individually or in a group setting.  Participants experience an auditory and sensory treat as they are bathed in sound and vibration.  In some cultures it is referred to it as a sound massage, which gives a good description of the feeling you have as the vibrations course through your skin, muscles and tissues.
