About the Order of Twin Hearts Foundation
The Order of Twin Hearts has over 115 members and many of those members have asked for a way to mobilize the Healing Arts Center’s best and brightest to make a difference for the students who follow them and the professions of massage therapy and holistic healing. This year, The Order of Twin Hearts Foundation, LLC, a not-for-profit charitable entity, was formed to give OTH members a way to make a difference in the community.
All OTH members are invited to become members of this foundation, elect officers and adopt by-laws for a 501(c)3 charitable institution designed to advance and protect the professions of massage therapy and holistic healing. The Order of Twin Hearts Foundation will operate completely independent of HAC, though HAC intends to make donations to assist in its funding.
The Vision of OTHF
Imagine what a group of well-trained and deeply committed healers could do for our community.
- Student Assistance – many students drop out of massage therapy training because of unforeseen financial events. In recent years, two students at HAC have had their houses burn to the ground taking all of their personal belongs with it. An OTHF Student Assistance Fund could provide valuable resources for students who need to make it through their education so that they can reach the earning potential of a licensed professional.
- Professional Advocacy – many spa and clinic owners engage in unethical and often illegal practices like requiring therapists to be at work “on call” without pay should someone request a massage. This is a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Over-working massage therapists beyond safe limits is another big problem. OTHF can become a powerful voice for the rights of wellness workers and impact work conditions in our community.
- Advancement of Wellness Professions – OTHF can publicly promote holistic wellness practices at a time wherein no one can afford to get sick. Furthermore, modalities like massage therapy and Reiki have proven usefulness in the treatment of many medical conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, autism, cancer, drug addiction and eating disorders, to name a few. Educating medical professionals will advance the use of holistic modalities, educate the community and advance the holistic wellness professions.
- Fund Research – standard medical research has all but ignored massage therapy, Reiki and other holistic modalities. This is largely because the research funds are raised and spent by those wishing to advance their own field. OTHF has the opportunity to work with researchers in one of the most advanced medical communities in the world to study and prove the efficacy of a host of holistic modalities.
The Order of Twin Hearts Foundation is an independent entity operated by members of the Order of Twin Hearts. While it has the legal right to open its membership to auxiliary members, it will be up to the Foundation to decide how best to represent the interest of healers in our community.
