SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Massage is the foundation of a comprehensive system of healing, founded by Dr. Anthony James, Dean of the SomaVeda College of Naturopathic Medicine. Practitioners of SomaVeda® learn to facilitate a holistic, therapeutic experience for their Clients, Friends, and Family, drawing not only from Traditional Thai Yoga (Thai Physical Therapy), but also from Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Native American Medicine, Naturopathy & Emotional Freedom Technique. The practice of SomaVeda® Thai Yoga, uses our hands, feet, knees, elbows, forearms and whole body along with martial arts and yoga principles. It focuses on the dynamic flow of gentle yet highly effective movements through precise body mechanics, and places a strong emphasis on practicing in a sustainable way. Instructor – Maureen Hughes Maureen Hughes, PhD, LMT has been a Lay-Minister in The Native American Indigenous Church since 2015 and a Certified SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga and Integrative Therapies Instructor since 2016. She graduated from The Healing Arts Center in July 2015, worked in their professional clinic until May 2016, and then started her private SomaVeda™ practice in Saint Louis. She offers the SomaVeda™ Therapeutic Day Program (taught in the Level 2 Ayurvedic Thai Yoga course) as well as offering Individual Sessions. She is licensed in both Missouri and Arizona, where she lives currently, between Sedona and Phoenix. She also loves teaching yoga and has been a Certified Yoga Instructor (200 hrs) since 2005. She has traveled all over the world, including to India three times to study yoga and ayurveda. Maureen’s background before SomaVeda™ and massage therapy includes getting her PhD in Biology and Biomedical Sciences with an emphasis in Immunology from Washington University in St. Louis (2003). In part of because of her scientific background, and her penchant for teaching, she took readily to teaching yoga, and SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga Therapy, like a fish to water, and since May 2016 has had over 100 students take her level 1 course on the mat, over 20 people take Level 2 Ayurvedic Thai Yoga, and graduated 11 students thus far from her full CTP-1 (Certified Thai Practitioner) Program (since offering the full course CTP-1 starting in 2018). She is also certified in India for Ayurvedic Dietary analysis, runs workshops to help people learn to eat for their body type/constitution, offers online yoga and vegan cooking classes, and loves to make jewelry, paint, and firedance.

You will receive extensive hands-on training and mentoring, and gain confidence by practicing the movements and positions on each other. When you have completed the course, you will be equipped with the skills, movements, and confidence to give a 35 to 50 minute SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Session. Student Materials You will be provided a folder with several paper items and your textbook. What to bring: Please bring a pillow and a sincere desire to learn! A pen and highlighter (recommended) Pack a lunch or there are restaurants nearby. Water (of course you will have free access to our lovely STL tap water) An additional notebook if desired. What to wear: Comfortable clothing in layers. Not too loose. If you sweat profusely, maybe a change of clothing.
