Three Weekends A Year, Three Related Topics, One Comprehensive Skill Set ![]() The Healing Arts Center is launching a new series of workshops designed to provide advanced level training in a format that supports the working therapist. The idea behind Pro Tracks is to broaden the therapeutic reach of massage therapists to expand client wellness services so as to reach a larger client base or improve employability at a higher wage rate. The Healing Arts Center takes the view that massage therapists are underused in the arena of wellness and promoting health in our culture. HAC does not teach pamper massage, but rather focuses its knowledge, experience and skill toward developing the massage therapist as a "first responder" in the quest for health and wellness. For this reason our primary massage therapy training program is directed on pure healing modalities that alleviate stress and anxiety, treats acute and chronic pain at its source and provides the myriad of other benefits that therapeutic massage is known to provide. In fact, "therapy" is the whole point of this healing art. Tibetan Lama To Teach An Introduction To Tummo, The Yoga of Psychic Heat At HAC January 2112/20/2017 ![]() About Tummo Tummo is an ancient Buddhist yoga form that produces internal heat within the body that is caused by a combination of specific exercises and meditation processes. It is sometimes referred to as the yoga of “inner heat”, “psychic heat” or “mystic heat”. It is an essential skill for Vajrayana Buddhist practitioners who are seeking to perfect the “completion stage” of Vajrayana practice. Vajrayana tantric practice, generally speaking, involves a “creation stage” wherein the practitioner develops a vision of a deity, or “yidam” and a “completion stage” wherein the visualization of the deity is disassembled to the naked emptiness of natural mind. This seems simple, but it is actually quite challenging and most Vajrayana practitioners practice their entire lives to develop this skill. For Centuries, Eastern Wellness Systems Have Understood Breath As An Essential Foundation For All Health and Meditative Practices. Western Wellness Is Finally Catching Up.
For those interested in good health, fitness, meditation, or nutrition, they find that when they add breathwork to their practice, it transforms the results they are already getting in other areas.
Anyone can register for Releasing 2017 – Creating 2018, an introduction to transformational breathwork workshop, happening December 31st. This is an opportunity for participants to discover breathwork and bid farewell to this year as they create their intention for life in 2018.
In ancient times lomi would go on for hours or even days. Then the Kahuna, a healer, and the recipient would go to the ocean to be restored by the gods. They would drink herbal remedies, be pounded, pinched, rolled, and sleep on the beach wrapped in kapa cloth(a traditional cloth made from pounded bark). The recipient would then be covered in sand and warm stones and watched over all night by their family. In the morning, there would be more ocean therapy and lomi. The process would continue for three to five days. Upon completion of the ritual, the kahuna would consult with the Spirit of the body. If all was in balance, Spirit would speak to one of the Kahunas and the lomi was "pau” (finished). Huge celebrations would ensue, and all the village would come to witness the re-united body and soul. A luau would mark the recipients complete body and spirit reunification. The reunion of body and Spirit would affect the entire village. One person’s healing was a healing for the entire tribe!
This quest was the driving desire of Lawrence Woods, the developer of Neural reset Therapy®, (NRT). That is, how could we as therapists cause less pain to our patients and ourselves while achieving even better results? If you do clinical type therapy such as pain reduction (hopefully elimination), recovery from injuries or surgeries, performance enhancement, structural balancing and alignment, etc., or want to, it is only natural that you are always searching for a better way to achieve your treatment goals. Lawrence invested years and thousands of dollars to find a better way and that way is NRT. As a therapists, for over 30 years, I have studied and used a variety of methods. The first big game changer in my career was Neuromuscular Therapy, St John Method, (NMT.) The second was Active Isolated Stretching, Mattes Method (AIS.). The third was Russian Sports Massage, Kurashova Method. While I have studied many variations on several themes, nothing really new had come along for 20 years. When I was introduced to NRT I was so blown away (and it takes a lot to impress me) that I told Lawrence, “You gotta bottle this.” He did and I became the first instructor to teach NRT (other than Lawrence himself.) I am honored and excited to bring NRT to St Louis at the Healing Arts Center in 2017.
NRT is 100% based in science - anatomy-kinesiology, physiology, and neurology. NRT applies a gentle but confusing stimulus to the nervous system causing it to correct the tonus of a specific muscle, the “Target muscle.” A novel utilization of Sherrington’s Law of Reciprocal Inhibition and Pfleuger’s Law of Symetry, NRT is actually changing the patterns in the Body Maps of the brain, creating rapid changes, almost instant reduction of pain, and results that last, usually much longer, than any other soft tissue therapy. The Neural Reset Therapy® (NRT) seminars are being received extremely well by all professions. MD’s. DC’s. PT’s. OT’s, Acupuncturists, and of course Massage Therapists have come from as far away as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Kuwait, Mexico, and the UK and have traveled back to take the second and third courses.
The Reiki Mastery Course on August 6 & 7 |
The Healing Arts Center is well known in our community for Reiki training. Reiki is part of both our massage therapy training program and our community building courses. This means that many times a year we are helping people create compassion and healthy touch in their lives. As some may already know Reiki is an ancient healing tradition that was rediscovered by a man named Mikao Usui in the 1920's. Reiki training involves something called an "attunement" which is designed to activate Reiki energy within the student. Through attunement and instruction Reiki is passed down from one teacher to the next. Once someone has completed the final training course the student can then become an instructor. This is what the Reiki Mastery course is all about, training participants to give both the attunements and the instructions to others. |
Massage therapy during pregnancy is an important part of prenatal care and can be often be done throughout the entire nine months of pregnancy. The benefits of prenatal massage for the mother include many physiological, emotional and psychological benefits. Commonly these include reduction of common discomforts such as back pain, headaches, cramps, tension, fatigue, swelling, and constipation. |
